1859 Clemintine Burgess of Georgetown District is selling to Anne Smith, a woman of colour, in consideration of $50.00 in the state aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum to be paid by Ann Smith to my husband John C. Burgess in his lifetime of Georgetown District.
(It seems that John C. has borrowed from Anne Smith this money and Clementine is repaying with a piece of property) as it states further in the document that "And I do hereby bind myselsf and my heirs ecexutors and administrators, to warrant and forever def? all and singular the said premises unto the said Ann Smith her heirs and especiall6y against any claim which any of my children may hereafter set up to the sale(?) on aug ?____
Witness my hand and seal this first day of February in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight Hundred and Fifty Nine and in the Eighty Third year of the Sovereignty Independence of the United States of America.
Signed by Clemintine F. Burgess
The 1860 Census of Georgetown County shows Clementine is shown as the sister of Solomon Anderson.
Prior to this point in time (1860) Clementine Anderson had been married to John Burgess.
Now, in 1860 Clementine is a widow at 30 years of age with three children to care for.
William, age 10
John, age 8
and a female child with the initial "M" age 6 who is assumed to be Melvina.
Melvina was born out of wedlock after the death of John Burgess. This is now in dispute as it seems John died after the birth of Melvina, and the eldest son has a middle name of Revas.
The fatherof Melvina was suposedly of Spanish descent named Revus Joseph.
The child was given the Burgess name.
The information about Melvina was related by Mae Smith Hewitt and also by Edgar Morris, father-in-law of Melvina.
In census of 1880 Clementine is living with Melvina and her husband Hansford Morris in the Santee Section of Georgetown County. The census lists her as "Clementine F. Sweat, age 49, widow".
At some time between 1860 and 1880 Clementine married Horry Sweat and was widowed.

Melvina
Burgess (daughter of John C. Burgess and Clementina Anderson) was born Abt.
November 1851, and died January 26, 1918 in Georgetown ,S.C.. She married Hansford Richard Morris.
Notes for Melvina Burgess:
According to Mae Smith Hewitt and Edgar Morris,father-in-law of Melvina, she was born out of wedlock after the death of John Burgess. Her father was reportedly a man of Spanish descent named Revus Joseph. She was given the Burgess name.
In 1880 Census Hansford is shown at age 26 and Melvina E. Burgess, his wife is shown at age 24 (according to the Census of 1860 which shows Melvina at age 6 years, this would make her to be 26 years of age).
If deed from property sold in year 1859 to Ann Smith which indicates that she had leased or bought this property from John Burgess before his death which may have been between 1857 and 1859.
It does not seem possible that Melvina, born in 1851, could be the illegitimate child of Revas Joseph.
Note:Melvina's older brother has the middle name of Revas, being born in June 1849. It seems likely that Revas was a friend of the family at the time of William Revas's birth.
